Virginia Life Insurance and Annuity Contracts Free of Certain Claims

Effective July 1, 2016, Virginia has made life insurance and non-qualified annuities exempt from creditors’ claims. Virginia Code: 38.2-3122. http://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title38.2/chapter31/section38.2-3122/ This exemption applies not only to the policy proceeds but as well as any cash surrender values.
