EXPRESSING GRATITUDE: THANKSGIVING ALL YEAR LONG
As we approach the end of November, Thanksgiving is once again just around the corner. Thanksgiving brings to mind memories of roasted turkey and stuffing, delicious pumpkin pie, family togetherness, and exciting football games on TV. It is also a reminder to cultivate gratitude in our lives. Yes, some of you may be grateful that you don’t live in the same city as your relatives . . . but in all seriousness, this can be the perfect time to propel you to cultivate a sense of gratitude and kindness every day of the year.
Research shows that those who live a thankful life every day enjoy powerful and lasting benefits to their emotional, physical, and cognitive health. In fact, people who practice gratitude daily are shown to have better relationships, less stress, and healthier brains and bodies.
Sometimes we have to work at feeling grateful. But it’s a worthwhile practice. The website Happify reports that people who regularly practice gratitude feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems.
There are a number of ways to express your gratitude. Whether you’re looking for a quote to share with friends, a reminder to yourself, an inspirational Facebook post, or a way to close a thank you note, here are a few of my favorite gratitude quotes to help you.
“Gratitude turns what we have into enough.” – Anonymous
“Gratitude is a powerful catalyst for happiness. It’s the spark that lights a fire of joy in your soul.” – Amy Collette
“Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.” – Melody Beattie
“Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. Thankfulness may consist merely of words. Gratitude is shown in acts.” – Henri Frederic Amiel
“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.” – Epictetus
“Being thankful is not always experienced as a natural state of existence, we must work at it, akin to a type of strength training for the heart.” – Larissa Gomez
“Be grateful for what you already have while you pursue your goals. If you aren’t grateful for what you already have, what makes you think you would be happy with more.” – Roy T. Bennett
Why not decide today to celebrate the gratitude of Thanksgiving every day? Your world will be a happier place to live.
