Medical Insurance: Owner only Group Coverage
Effective July 1st, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield will allow 1 person/owner only groups. This is a major change and will benefit many individuals who had to switch to Kaiser and Cigna this past January when Anthem pulled out of the individual health insurance market in Northern Virginia.
As defined by Virginia code, a “self-employed individual” means an individual who derives a substantial portion of his income from trade or business (1) operated by the individual as a sole proprietor (2) through which the individual has attempted to earn taxable income and (3) for which he/she has filed the appropriate IRS Form 1040, Schedule C, F or K for the previous taxable year.
The tax documentation will be requested at group installation.
